How a Unimarket PunchOut works
Unimarket prefers cXML for PunchOut and purchase orders. Here’s each step, with the cXML message behind it.
-
1
The buyer opens your catalogue
From Unimarket, they choose your PunchOut catalogue. Unimarket sends their identity and shared secret to your store, server to server.

2
They shop your store
TierCommerce checks the credential and returns a start page. The buyer lands in your store signed in, with their prices and range.
PunchOutSetupResponse -
3
The cart goes back
They return the cart instead of checking out, and it lands in their Unimarket cart with your part numbers, prices, units and UNSPSC codes.

4
The purchase order arrives
Once it’s approved, Unimarket sends the purchase order as cXML and expects an answer straight away. It’s answered, checked and sent into your ERP.

Where Unimarket catalogues go wrong
Unimarket’s supplier help lists the same few problems again and again. Here’s what to watch, and how TierCommerce helps.
-
Uploads that fail
Changed headers, a missing column or odd characters stop a hosted catalogue loading. TierCommerce writes the CSV in Unimarket’s own template.
-
A UNSPSC code on everything
Every product in a hosted catalogue needs a UNSPSC category. TierCommerce uses each product’s code, or the account’s default.
-
Prices that drift
A hosted catalogue is only as current as its last upload. Your TierCommerce catalogue is made again every night from your ERP prices.
-
Changes waiting for approval
Customers can approve every catalogue change before it goes live. A PunchOut shows your live range and prices with no upload at all.
-
Purchase orders without an answer
Unimarket expects a cXML response the moment it sends a purchase order. TierCommerce answers every one, and only ever takes it once.
-
No PO, no pay
Universities on Unimarket reject invoices without a purchase order number. Every order from Unimarket carries it into your ERP.
