Dynamics 365 PunchOut for suppliers
Customers on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management or Finance can shop your store from a purchase requisition, at their own prices, and send the cart straight back. TierCommerce speaks the cXML Dynamics 365 expects, and takes the approved purchase order into your ERP.
- cXML PunchOut from Dynamics 365 purchase requisitions
- Item IDs, prices and units that land in the requisition cleanly
- cXML purchase orders checked and sent into your ERP

Dynamics 365 PunchOut at a glance
Dynamics 365 calls a PunchOut catalogue an external catalog. This is what happens on each side, so you know what your customer will ask for.
- Protocol
- cXML
- Buyers start from
- A purchase requisition, from the External catalogs action
- The cart goes back as
- Requisition lines with your item ID, price and unit
- The purchase order arrives
- A cXML OrderRequest, or by email
- What you need on their side
- A PunchOut URL, identity and shared secret, with your units of measure set up in Dynamics 365
How a Dynamics 365 PunchOut works
Dynamics 365 runs PunchOut from purchase requisitions, and only over cXML. Here’s each step, with the cXML message behind it.
-
1
The buyer opens your catalogue
In My purchase requisitions, they add a line from External catalogs and pick yours. Dynamics 365 sends their identity and shared secret.
PunchOutSetupRequest -
2
They shop your store
TierCommerce checks the credential and opens your store already signed in, with the account’s prices and range.
PunchOutSetupResponse -
3
The cart goes back
They return the cart instead of checking out. Each line lands in the requisition with your item ID, description, quantity, unit and price.
PunchOutOrderMessage -
4
The purchase order arrives
Once the requisition is approved and becomes a purchase order, Dynamics 365 sends it as cXML. It’s checked and sent into your ERP.

Where Dynamics 365 PunchOuts go wrong
Most failed Dynamics 365 PunchOuts come down to a handful of setup details. Here’s what to check, and how TierCommerce helps.
-
Units of measure
Every unit in your cart must already exist in Dynamics 365. Send your unit list early, and TierCommerce returns the same unit on every line.
-
Procurement categories
Dynamics 365 doesn’t use the classification code as the category, and your catalog only shows if your vendor is approved for its categories. Agree them first.
-
A catalogue nobody can see
If purchasing policies don’t allow at least one of your categories, buyers won’t see you. Testing from a real buyer’s requisition catches it.
-
Item IDs on the PO
Your item ID becomes the line’s external item ID, and comes back on the purchase order. TierCommerce matches it to your product.
-
Prices that changed
If a price changes between the cart and the purchase order, the order is held for your team instead of going through at the wrong price.
-
One catalog per vendor
Dynamics 365 uses the first active external catalog for a vendor. Keep one per vendor, and you’ll never shop the wrong one.
Who buys through Dynamics 365 in Australia and New Zealand
Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management run purchasing at retailers, manufacturers, hospitality groups and service firms on both sides of the Tasman.

- Manufacturing
- Hospitality
- Agriculture
- IT services
- Distribution
PunchOut across your customers’ systems

Dynamics 365 PunchOut questions
Does Dynamics 365 support PunchOut?
Yes. Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management and Finance have PunchOut built in, called external catalogs. Buyers open them from a purchase requisition.
Does Dynamics 365 use cXML or OCI?
cXML. The external catalog’s PunchOut protocol is cXML as standard, so that’s what TierCommerce uses with Dynamics 365 customers.
What do we give our customer to set it up?
Your cXML URL, the shared secret, and the units of measure you sell in. Their admin enters these in the external catalog, with the identity and domain their system sends.
How do purchase orders reach us?
Dynamics 365 can send purchase orders as cXML OrderRequests to the same URL, once your customer sets your vendor to send them via cXML. TierCommerce checks each one and sends it into your ERP. If they email purchase orders instead, Order Entry reads them.
What happens if a price on the purchase order is wrong?
TierCommerce checks each line against the account’s price, within a tolerance you set. If something doesn’t match, the order is held and your team is emailed to place or reject it.
Can buyers edit a cart after they’ve sent it back?
Yes. If Dynamics 365 sends a cart back to be edited, your store opens with those items already in the cart.
Our customer runs Business Central. Does that work?
Business Central buyers usually add PunchOut through an app from a Microsoft partner. If it sends cXML, it connects to TierCommerce the same way. If your own ERP is Business Central, see our Business Central integration.
What does PunchOut cost?
PunchOut is an add-on on Professional and Enterprise. It’s $149 a month, including your first connected customer account, then $69 for each extra account up to 10 and $39 each after that, in Australian dollars ex GST.
